A friend of mine was telling me that her 11 year old son asked to buy his "girlfriend" a Valentine's Day gift. She said, what do you mean like a card or some chocolates? He said, I want to buy her a necklace!! She talked him into the chocolates! ;-)
I think its super sweet that he wanted to buy her something! And then I wondered, what age do you let your kids spend their money (or yours) on real gifts for their Valentine?
I told my husband this story and he immediately rattled off the name of the girl he gave his first real gift to at 14...and it was a necklace. I also remember my first real Valentines Day with a boyfriend. His name was Kristopher and he surprised me by singing outside my window on Valentines Day! We were 15.
So maybe I will let my girls get in on the real gift giving early. They are memories that last a lifetime!
Who was your 1st Valentine?
